Home Was Never Elsewhere is a philosophical work written close to literature: an inquiry into consciousness, difference, relation, suffering, and the fact that we belong.
The work took shape in a particular life, at a particular time: after October 7, 2023, amid war, fatherhood, medicine, and a conversation that began on a shore. From there, it gradually opened onto questions that seemed to exceed the circumstances that gave rise to them.
At its center is a simple proposition: that difference need not be exile, and that the distance between things may be what allows a world to appear, a life to be touched, and one person to meet another.
The wider work
The book is the heart of a wider work. In time, two companion works will join it, one on either side. The first, The Poetic Arc, will carry the same questions into poetry, image, and felt experience. The second, Home Is Now, will be a philosophical-scientific work that examines them through the brain, the body, life, and the physical world. All three approach the same field in different ways: the book through conversation, the arc through poetry and experience, and the scientific work through inquiry.
Other forms gather around them here. The Moons are shorter, more intimate works led by image. Independent essays develop focused philosophical arguments.
The work remains open
The work does not end when it is published. Those who enter are invited to take part in its continuing life: to read and respond, question and challenge, add a perspective, create works of their own from the encounter, or simply join the conversation. What gathers in that conversation may illuminate the work anew and shape the editions that follow; works that grow from the encounter may stand beside it in voices of their own.
In time, Mishu will join the project as a conversational companion and guide. Drawing only on materials that have been published or deliberately shared with him, he will help readers move among the works, deepen their questions, and continue the conversation. His role is not to offer the final word, but to help keep the inquiry open.
The site is deliberately spare: a quiet place for the work itself, and a way to return when something new appears.
